Gopalakrshinan, present at the programme organized to mark the film maestro Satyajit Ray’s birth anniversary, also delivered the convocation address.

He advised the trainee students and alumni of SRFTI to be technically sound, novel and apply utmost creative approach to get success in their professional life as the technological sea-change in the film and video world was creating more movie makers than the real and serious viewers.

Jatua lauded the SRFTI students and faculty for their exceptional success on the professional front in India and abroad.

He assured the Institute management that the Union Government, under the 12th Five Year Plan, will sanction funds for construction of a new girls’ hostel, new blocks for editing department and common classroom theatre and make efforts to establish a Centre for Excellence in Television at the Institute.

Jatua pointed out that the current number of private TV channels has gone up to more than 850 in India needing more and more trained manpower and stressed the Government role as that of the facilitator, creating supportive policy environment for various players in film and TV industry.

He also called for hike in investment that would make the entertainment and media services competitive and effective.

Earlier, both Jatua and Gopalakrishnan paid homage to Ray’s portrait to mark his birth day.
